8. You bought penny candy?
9. When Drugstores had fountains?
10. Most kids has used bikes,and you bought  your bike with your paper route money

Is the Government running out of your money?

If, you lived in the 50's you are now collecting Social Security checks.  Then please read this if you think the Government is going to run out of money.

THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH THE GOVERNMENT'S CALCULATION OF AVAILABLE SOCIAL SECURITY IS THEY FORGOT TO FIGURE IN THE PEOPLE WHO DIED BEFORE THEY EVER COLLECTED A SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK!!!

WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO?

Remember, not only did you and I contribute to Social Security but your employer did, too.

It totaled 15% of your income before taxes.

If you averaged only $30K over your working life, that's close to $220,500.

Read that again.

Did you see where the Government paid in one single penny?

We are talking about the money you and your employer put in a Government bank to insure you and I that we would have a retirement check from the money we put in, not the Government.

Now they are calling the money we put in an entitlement when we reach the age to take it back.

If you calculate the future invested value of $4,500 per year (yours & your employer's contribution) at a simple 5% interest (less than what the Government pays on the money that it borrows), after 49 years of working you'd

have $892,919.98.

If you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $26,787.60 per year and it would last better than 30 years (until you're 95 if you retire at age 65) and that's with no interest paid on that final amount on deposit!

If you bought an annuity and it paid 4% per year, you'd have a lifetime income of $2,976.40 per month.

Another thing with me.... I have two deceased husbands who died in their 50's, (one was 51 and the other one was 59 before one percent of their social security could be drawn.

I worked all my life and am drawing 100% on my own social security).

Their S.S. money will never have one cent drawn from what they paid into S.S. all their lives.

THE FOLKS IN WASHINGTON HAVE PULLED OFF A BIGGER PONZI SCHEME THAN BERNIE MADOFF EVER DID.

Entitlement my foot, I paid cash for my social security insurance!

Just because they borrowed the money for other government spending, doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or handout!!

Remember Congressional benefits? --- free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days.

Now that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call my social security retirement payments entitlements?

We're "broke" and we can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, or Homeless.

Yet in the last few months we have provided aid to Haiti, Chile and Turkey.

And now Pakistan......home of bin Laden.

Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!!

And they can't help our own citizens in New York and New Jersey!

They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives, and now, when it's time for us to collect, the government is running out of money.

Why did the government borrow from it in the first place?

It was supposed to be in a locked box, not part of the general fund.

So now where did all this money go?

Do you remember these signs on the road?        To qualify as "old as dirt" you need to recognize these. For those who never saw any of the Burma Shave signs, here is a quick lesson in our history of the 1930's, '40's and '50's. More 50's From Bill Daniels

All the girls had ugly gym uniforms? And wore tennis shoes not $200 Nike's! 

It took three minutes for the TV to warm up? 

Nobody owned a purebred dog?

When a quarter was a decent allowance?

You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny? 

Your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces?

You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, all for free, every time? And you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot?

Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box?



It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents?

They threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed... and they did it!



When a '57 Chevy was everyone's dream car...to cruise, peel out, lay rubber or watch submarine races, and people went steady?

No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked?


Lying on your back in the grass with your friends... and saying things like, 'That cloud looks like a... '? 


 Playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the game? 


Stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger...



And with all our progress, don't you just wish, just once, you could slip back in time and savor the slower pace, and share it with the children of today.

All this and much more made me me.

Today we need to slow down and smell the roses. thanks, Bill for sharing the 50's with us

Remembering Spring Vegetable Gardening

Its spring now,and I remember working with my father in the garden in the 50's In those days we only used cow manure to grow our vegetables.  In those days we didn't buy plants we grow all our vegetables from seed.  We had a small garden,and I learned a lot Organic Gardening. In those days backyard gardeners didn't know much about chemicals to grow vegetables. My father would order a truck load of cow manure from the milk farmer.
I remember shoveling and spreading cow manure all day. We work from sun rise to sun set all weekend to get finished.  This and more I remember is what made me me. let here from about if you lived in the 50's.

More and more 50 Th's Stuff

I remember back in the 50Th's  we had a coal Furnace. My job was to shovel coal into the Furnace,and I even thought it was fun.  My father always check my work.  It was always fun  to  watch the coal truck deliver coal. There was a long shout and the coal was poured into a very large bin in the cellar. In those days most people didn't finished basements like they do today. All this and more is what made me me.  Lets here from you.

My brother remembers the 50's

I remember the first car I owned. It was a 1956 Chevy Bel Air. It was 10 years old when i got it for Hefty $50 dollars. It was a standard shift 4 speed. I had no idea how to use the clutch. I would always stay away from stopping on hills. Too little you stall , too much you would roll back into the car behind you. Not good either way.

In those day you took off the hubcaps and painted the rims Black. You would then put on chrome lug nuts or a shinny Baby Moon. It look really sharp and fast that way. I can't believe I said that.

Forget about Air bags, because it had a solid steel dashboard. No padding back then. One quick-stop and you would loose your smile.

Only AM radio then. No FM or stereo. If you could you would install a back speaker to make it sound like a stereo.
